Cosmetic Dentistry in Chicago, IL from Bucktown Wicker Park Dental

Everyone loves to smile, but some people don’t feel that they can. They don’t feel confident because of chipped, cracked, missing. or discolored teeth.  If you hesitate to smile, you may be a perfect candidate for a smile makeover with cosmetic dental procedures. Cosmetic treatment can transform your smile so you can have the custom designed aesthetic you deserve. We think everyone deserves to smile and we want to help make that possible with innovative cosmetic dental treatments from our Chicago dental office.

Metal-Free Cosmetic Treatments

We do not place metal-based restorations in our patients’ mouths. Why would we take the chance? Metal is not only unattractive, it is unhealthy. What many people think of as silver fillings or crowns are actually made up of a large percentage of mercury, and who hasn’t heard of the dangers of mercury to the human body?  Metal can also compromise the strength of your teeth, causing teeth to chip or crack as metal restorations fluctuate with temperature changes. Because of this, metal fillings and dental crowns allow bacteria to form underneath, causing decay in the tooth they were meant to protect.

We use natural looking composite or, for more extensive repair, pure porcelain to restore teeth; we think it’s what our cosmetic dental patients deserve. Our metal-free cosmetic treatment options include:

Inlays and Onlays: Unlike large, silver metal fillings of years past, we prefer a more attractive restoration that actually strengthens the tooth. Our inlays and onlays are more conservative restorations than metal fillings; they require far less drilling and preparation of the tooth than a metal filling, which allows us to save much healthy tooth structure. While traditional fillings can reduce tooth strength up to 50 percent, inlays and onlays made of high-strength porcelain can actually increase tooth strength by up to 75 percent, lasting from 10 to 30 years.

Dental Crowns: Patients often come to us with teeth that are cracked, badly chipped, decayed, or with aging metal fillings that have extensive damage beneath them. For this kind of damage, we often recommend porcelain crowns. Fabricated from pure porcelain, our crowns never have a dark line or odd, flat appearance that some old-fashioned crowns may have. Ours look and feel so natural, you may forget that you have one. Crowns are permanently fitted to teeth to whiten, reshape and realign existing teeth for a natural, comfortable bite and more attractive appearance.

Bonding: If you want to correct minor flaws or improve the shade and texture of your teeth, artful cosmetic bonding may be the solution you have been looking for. Cosmetic dental bonding is a method of restoring decayed teeth, improving chipped or cracked teeth, changing color, or reshaping teeth with a composite resin material. Bonding also allows us to even-out a slightly crooked smile, without braces or time-consuming return visits. Very little original tooth structure is removed, yet bonding can quickly create a more aesthetically pleasing and vibrant aesthetic.
