Invisalign Q & A

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign® is a treatment that uses clear aligners to straighten your teeth. It works very similarly to braces. But while braces use highly visible brackets and wire to slowly reposition your teeth, Invisalign uses clear aligners. They fit over your teeth comfortably so you can wear them throughout the day, and their clear design makes them virtually invisible.

What does Invisalign treat?

Invisalign treats almost any mouth issue for which orthodontists traditionally use braces. It corrects:

  • Overbites
  • Underbites
  • Crossbites
  • Gapped teeth
  • Open bites
  • Crowded teeth

If you don’t have any of these conditions, but you want generally straighter teeth, Invisalign can help you, too. Dr. Schwartz and Dr. Daza are available to talk with you about your smile goals to help you decide if Invisalign is right for you.

How does Invisalign work?

Before you start your Invisalign treatment, Dr. Schwartz or Dr. Daza takes a 3D image of your mouth with a specialized scanner. Your first set of Invisalign aligners is created based on that data. The aligners are 3D printed from a SmartTrack® material to ensure a proper fit over your teeth. Your aligners are trimmed to match your exact gumline so you can wear them comfortably and so they look as natural as possible.

Dr. Daza and Dr. Schwartz don’t just make you one pair of aligners, either. Instead, you’re provided with a set. You’ll start with your first aligner, then move onto the second one after either one or two weeks, depending on Dr. Daza and Dr. Schwartz’s recommendations. Every one to two weeks, you’ll progress through your set of aligners, slowly shifting your teeth to reach your smile goals.

What should I expect while wearing Invisalign?

To see the best results, wear your aligners 20 to 22 hours each day. You can easily take them out to eat and drink. Each time you change to a new pair of aligners, you may feel some pressure as the new aligners gently guide your teeth. That pressure is normal and subsides in a few days.
