Crowns and Bridges

What are dental crowns?

If you have a tooth that’s damaged, don’t worry. With a dental crown, Dr. Daza and Dr. Schwartz can protect the healthy portion of your tooth and restore its appearance.

A crown is a dental device that’s essentially a cap. It’s shaped and colored to match your surrounding teeth, then placed over the top of a damaged tooth. That way, it protects the tooth while giving you a full set of functional, beautiful teeth so you can eat, talk, and smile normally.

Crowns are ideal in the following scenarios:

  • You had a root canal or a large-scale filling
  • Your tooth fractured or is likely to fracture
  • Your tooth is misshapen or discolored

What are dental bridges?

If you’re missing a tooth, a dental bridge gives you a way to replace it. Unlike dentures, dental bridges are permanently fixed in place so you don’t have to worry about them shifting when you talk and eat. And, unlike dental implants, dental bridges don’t require anything to be implanted into your jawbone to root your replacement tooth.

Instead, a dental bridge uses the tooth or teeth around the missing tooth for support. Dr. Schwartz or Dr. Daza creates a bridge that includes the replacement tooth and crowns for the teeth that surround it. By bonding those crowns to the neighboring teeth with a dental adhesive, they fix the bridge in place.

What are dental crowns and bridges made from?

These dental devices are made from a variety of materials, including metal, ceramic, porcelain, and acrylic.

Bucktown Wicker Park Dental offers its patients CEREC® crowns and bridges. With this technology, they can create high-grade ceramic bridges and crowns at their office.

Traditional bridges and crowns require multiple visits. During the first visit, your tooth is prepared for the crown or bridge and measurements are taken. Then, you wait, often with an uncomfortable temporary crown, while the crown or bridge is created. You return for a second visit to have it fixed in place.

With CEREC, Dr. Daza and Dr. Schwartz create your crown or bridge during your single visit, minimizing your time away from work and your family and restoring your full, strong, beautiful smile as quickly as possible.
