Dentures Q & A

What are dentures?

Whether you want to replace a few teeth or the entire arch of either your top or bottom teeth, dentures are designed to restore your smile. They can be placed in and taken out of your mouth at your convenience.

Without a full set of teeth, activities people normally take for granted become challenging. Missing teeth can affect your appearance, the way you sound when you talk, or your ability to enjoy your favorite foods. With dentures, Dr. Schwartz and Dr. Daza give you a full set of top and bottom teeth so you can enjoy your usual daily activities just like you did before.

Are there different types of dentures?

Yes. Dr. Daza and Dr. Schwartz help you pick the dentures that best suit your mouth and your lifestyle. The primary types of dentures are:

Conventional full dentures

If you need the full arch of either your top or bottom teeth restored, this denture type could be right for you. First, Dr. Daza or Dr. Schwartz remove the full arch of your affected teeth. Then, you wait a few months for your mouth to heal because your bone reshapes during the healing process. You are without your teeth during this time. Once the area heals completely, Dr. Schwartz or Dr. Daza fits the dentures to you so you can eat, drink, and smile comfortably.

Immediate full dentures

If you need a full arch of teeth and don’t want to be without your teeth during the healing period, you can choose immediate full dentures. These dentures are placed right after your teeth are removed. They most likely have to be refitted after a few months, however, as your bone reshapes during the healing process.

Partial dentures

Maybe you don’t need a full row of top or bottom teeth. In that case, Dr. Daza and Dr. Schwartz fit you with partial dentures, which replace your missing teeth and sit in your mouth supported by a metal structure.

How do I care for my dentures?

Dentures need the same level of attention as natural teeth. Brush them daily. Don’t allow them to dry out, and handle them with care since they can break if you drop them.

Also, don’t forget to still brush your mouth to keep your gums and any remaining teeth healthy.
